Amid a raging surge of Covid-19 particularly across the U.S. and Europe, the world recently welcomed the promising news of an imminent vaccine from Pfizer that has a potential accuracy rate of over 90 percent. If the prelimiary results hold and the vaccine is approved by the FDA under its emergency guidelines, the real challenge will immediately shift towards manufacturing, logistics and supply chain, and vaccinating the public at large.
What we know thus far are as follows:
- Pfizer's manufacturing target: up to 50 million vaccine doses in 2020 and up to 1.3 billion doses in 2021
- Two doses per person is required
- Storage of the vaccine has a strict cold chain requirements, with temperature at around under minus 70 degrees Celcius
With regards to manufacturing and distributing the vaccine, Supplychain.com dives into the strategic approach put forth by Pfizer (see link below). Until then, we must continue to abide by and apply all hygienic and known prevention measures.
